A pair of dumbbells can take you surprisingly far. Building muscle, getting stronger, improving your fitness, or putting together a complete workout at home are all possible with the right approach. The tricky part is figuring out which advice is actually worth following.
That’s where we come in.
We’re The Strength Workshop, the editorial voice behind Dumbbell Only Workouts. We’re fascinated by strength training, exercise science, and the little details that make a big difference in how you train.
Our goal is to help you understand what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and how to get better results with the dumbbells you have.
We like getting into the details
There’s a reason we spend so much time talking about elbow positions, shoulder angles, ranges of motion, and muscle mechanics.
Small adjustments can change how an exercise feels and which muscles receive the greatest challenge. Knowing why those adjustments matter makes it easier to choose exercises that fit your goals.
Take a single-arm dumbbell row. Pulling toward your hip and pulling toward your upper ribs can emphasize different movement patterns. We want you to know what changes between those variations and when each makes sense.
That curiosity shapes everything we publish, from individual exercise guides to complete training programs.
Science matters, but so does context
Fitness research is fascinating. It’s also easy to misinterpret.
A study might find that two exercises produce similar muscle growth, but that doesn’t automatically mean they’re equally practical for everyone. Training experience, equipment, technique, and individual anatomy all influence how useful a recommendation is.
We examine published research, established training principles, and guidance from recognized strength and conditioning organizations. Then we look at what those findings mean for someone actually planning a workout.
We also have opinions. When we recommend a particular exercise, repetition range, or training approach, we explain our reasoning. And when the evidence is uncertain, we say so.
What you’ll find at Dumbbell Only Workouts
Our content focuses on making strength training more effective and easier to understand.
We cover:
- Dumbbell exercises: Technique, muscle involvement, movement mechanics, and common mistakes.
- Workout programs: Practical routines for building muscle, developing strength, and improving fitness.
- Training strategies: Progressive overload, exercise selection, training volume, recovery, and progression.
- Exercise science: Research findings explained in plain English, with practical context.
- Exercise comparisons: The differences between movements and when one variation deserves a place in your routine.
We’re particularly interested in helping people make the most of limited equipment. You can accomplish a great deal with dumbbells when your training is thoughtfully planned.
Let’s make every rep count
We believe good training advice should leave you knowing something useful.
Maybe that’s a better way to position your shoulders during a press, a smarter approach to organizing your weekly workouts, or a clearer explanation of why your progress has stalled.
Whatever brings you here, we want you to leave with a better understanding of strength training and something practical to apply during your next session.
That’s what The Strength Workshop is all about.
